(P5 & P6) OUTREACH TO THE COMMUNITY - BEING PROACTIVE AND MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Building on the emphasis on “leading self” and “serving others” in the lower and middle primary levels, even greater emphasis is given at the P5 and P6 levels to get our girls to broaden their perspectives, think critically, be proactive, and make a difference, especially to the larger community.

Inculcating Values

CCPS Clean and Green Movement - Our Clean & Green Earth

Students learn the importance of resource conservation and preservation of our natural heritage. At P5, students are given the opportunity to reach out to the community, sharing the impact of man’s utilisation of resources on the environment, the importance of the 4Rs (Refuse, Reduce, Reuse and Recycle) and good recycling habits which one can develop. At P6, students participate in educational field trips, such as to the Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, to experience and appreciate the natural environment and build pride in Singapore’s natural heritage.

Developing Effective Communication

Effective Communication Programme

At P5 and P6, every student practises and hones their speaking and communication skills through debates, which leverage on the English curriculum. Students broaden their perspectives through the exposure to current affairs, learn to think critically in response to a given topic or view point, learn to listen attentively to deepen understanding and express their ideas and opinions with clarity.

Putting Values in Action

Opportunities are created for students to exercise social responsibility in authentic contexts with students making meaningful contributions to the community (beyond the school). Students continue to take on classroom leadership roles and carry out daily cleaning of their classrooms before recess and dismissal and the canteen after recess.

Service Innovation

Outreach to the Elderly

At P5, students collaborate with their peers within their class and across the level and apply the Design Thinking process to their outreach project for the elderly from the CARElderly Senior Activity Centre (SAC), our CCPS community partner since 2013. The students learn to understand the needs of the elderly and work together with their peers to serve them.

Outreach to the Community

At P6, students are given greater ownership in their Service Innovation project. The classes identify groups of people or organisations to serve. They then apply what they have learnt from their previous Service Innovation projects in this final year project. Over the years, our students have served different groups of people and organisations.

M.A.D. (Make A Difference) Programme

From 2016, selected P5 and P6 students go through an intensive programme to deepen their learning and application of Design Thinking through a more rigorous process which includes an in-depth study of the needs of an identified community and the prototype and iteration of a design.

Senior Leaders from the Prefectorial Board and CCAs (P5 and P6)

At P5 and P6, selected students are given the opportunities to serve as Senior Leaders on the Prefectorial Board and in CCAs. These students are equipped with the skills to influence others positively, reflect and take the initiative to make improvements. One of the skills learnt is to speak persuasively to motivate good behaviour.
