The Canossa Convent Primary School Choir, named Voices of Youth, was formed in September 1999. It is presently under the guidance of Choir Conductor, Miss Lim Ching Ming, Joyce.

The objectives of our choir is to
  1. Provide a stimulating choral experience to motivate pupils to sing and perform and to inculcate a passion of music and the arts.
  2. Provide opportunities for pupils to perform regularly to master skills in choral techniques and to build stage confidence;
  3. Engage our audiences with high-quality performances which are also entertaining, uplifting and inspiring.
  4. Provide opportunities for pupils to take on leadership roles and to develop communication and problem-solving skills.
  5. Provide a supportive and inclusive environment for pupils to interact, bond and learn as a team.
  6. Provide opportunities for pupils to do service learning and contribute back to the community

The Choir performed regularly in school functions such as Thanksgiving Day, School Open House, Chinese New Year Celebrations etc. The Choir also has opportunities to perform for external organisations such as Ministry of Education (MOE), National Library Board, KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Singapore Flyer, Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS) and Housing & Development Board (HDB), just to name a few.

The Choir, too, plays its part by contributing back to the community. The choir performs for charitable organisations such as Simei Care Centre and at charity dinners and concerts. Christmas caroling is also done during the month of December at Orchard Road.

Furthermore, the Choir participates in competitions such as the bi-annual Singapore Youth Festival Choral Competition and was awarded Silver in 2012.

In Choir, pupils will learn to:
  • Use the correct breathing techniques when singing
  • Sing with the correct pitch
  • Sing with a clear and projected voice
  • Sing confidently in unison with actions
  • Differentiate between Major and Minor chords
  • Sing songs using solfege
  • Read the notes on music scores
  • etc

Our practices are held weekly on Tuesdays and Fridays from 2 to 4 pm.
Nearer to performances or competitions, more practices may be held or there may be an extension of practices. There may also be practices during the March holidays, the September holidays and the 1st week and the last week of the June and December holidays.
